Commander Steve Fixler's Biography

I was enlisted in the Army as a tanker from 1979-83 and served in Baumholder, West Germany with 2-68th Armor, 8th Infantry Division. From 1983-87, I was in the Illinois Army National Guard and received a degree in History from Northeastern Illinois University and my Army commission as an Armor Officer from Loyola University of Chicago. In 1987, I went back on active duty as an Armor Officer serving with 2-70th Armor, 1st Armored Division, Erlangen, West Germany and participated with them in Operation Desert Storm. I returned to the states and stayed there from 1991 – 2000 where I commanded A Company, 3-68th Armor, 4th Infantry Division, Ft. Carson, CO, then went to Ft. Lewis, WA and trained and evaluated National Guard and Reserve units and after that went to the University of Minnesota to teach ROTC. From 2000-2002, I was in Yongsan, Korea as the Operations Officer for United States Army Troop Command – Korea and then the Battalion Executive Officer for 1-72nd Armor, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea. In 2002, I returned to the states and was the Operations Officer for 5/15 Cavalry, 1st Armor Training Brigade, Ft. Knox, KY. My final assignment was at Ft. Leavenworth, KS, training National Guard units. In 2004, I retired from the Army as a Major and returned to Chicago. I currently work for the Veterans Assistance Commission of Du Page County. I also volunteer at the First Division Museum at Cantigny, Wheaton, IL and the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox, KY. I’ve been in the American Legion since 1997 and a member of this post since 2005.

Senior Vice Commander Frank Fagel's Biography

I was enlisted in the Marines 1972 to 1974 I served 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Infibious 8th Motors 3531, Camp LeJune - Okinawa - NAS Naval Station Jacksonville Florida Marine Baric. In 2004 joined The American Legion Wheaton Post 76 which I have served as Sgt At Arms, 1st Jr. Vice Commander, and now Sr. Vice Commander and Chaplain.
